    Seated in a Midtown restaurant on a recent afternoon, Susan Ray, the widow of director Nicholas Ray (1911-79), took pains to clarify a misconception about her husband's rarely seen final film, 1971's "We Can't Go Home Again."

    A new restoration of the unique, multi-image collage, which Ray undertook in collaboration with his students at SUNY-Binghamton's Harpur College, recently made its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. This weekend at the New York Film Festival, it will screen along with "Don't Expect Too Much," his widow's fascinating documentary account of the film's making, with Oscilloscope Laboratories set to distribute both films ...

    In 1971 Nicholas Ray, former Hollywood director of "Rebel Without a Cause" and "Bigger Than Life," accepted a teaching position at Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Suny Binghamton University in upstate New York.
